After 14 years of service they fire him

My husband worked for Wal-Mart for 14 years. He was in a store in Florida for 11 and worked his way up to Customer Service Manager. Then he transferred up here, ok he had to take a lower position as the store he was moving too could not use him as a CSM right away. But he was told they would work with him. So in good faith he took their word, he finally got the position a year and a half later and was demoted within a month of getting it. The store manager claimed she saw him staring off into space (he is an epileptic and was starting to have a seizure), then they left him with assignments he could not have gotten done without help but gave him none. They set up him to fail with the position, then they demote him all the way back to cashier. He worked hard and yes he made mistakes, but the kicker for me was the descision day they gave him. He was heading for break , had grabbed a bag of chips and was walking to pay for them when a customer caught him. He gave assistance, forgot he hadn't paid for the chips and proceeded to his break. He realized he had not paid for the bag of chips and told someone he was going to do as much, the bag was opened and they reported him for stealing. The icing on the cake was they fired him this week, six weeks before the decision day was to be esponged. He was late for lunch twice this past week, once because he was helping a co-worker and did not want to leave the mess in the aisle and the other time was to assist a customer. Not doing either of those two things would have gotten him in trouble as well.
